Holiday Chicken Wreath: Submitted by: jane mcmillan | Date Added: 29 Dec 2010
Listed in: Chicken and Cheese
Ingredients

Years ago I went to a food party where the hostess has someone come in and cook and the ring idea itself came from that party.
The filling however is my own creation, and the reaction when anyone sees it is always the same. It's "wow!"

SSssshhh don't tell anyone but it's made of leftover chicken, turkey or ham. My favorite is chicken and sausage. I have used the 7 ounce package of chicken in a pinch too.
Ingredients:
2 tubes crescent rolls
7 ounces cooked chicken
2 teaspoons olive oil
6 ounces bulk pork sausage
1/4 cup each chopped red and green sweet bell peppers
1 to 2 jalepeno peppers, seeds removed, diced
6 ounces chopped water chestnuts
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
6 ounces swiss cheese
1/4 cup slaw dressing, I like Marzetti's
1/2 teaspoon each salt and pepper or to your taste
6 ounces mozarella cheese
For garnish I have used fresh sweet basil leaves, and small pieces of sweet red bell pepper

Cooking Instructions

Heat olive oil in a pan, add the bulk sausage and saute until cooked through.
In a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer combine everything but the crescent rolls, cover and refrigerate at least one hour.
Pre heat oven to 350 degrees.
Use a pizza pan, it will be easier to keep the wreath in the round.
Arrange the crescent rolls long pointed side facing out, short fat side slightly overlapping in the center.
Use a scoop to fill the wreath on the widest part of the dough, going all the way around.
Take the pointed end of the dough and place it back over the filling, your filling will not be completely covered.
Tuck the pointed end under the center of the wreath to keep it neater.
Bake in a pre heated 350 degree oven for 20 to 30 minutes, or until golden.
Expect to hear comments like "WOW" when you take it out of the oven.
I decorate to suit the season. For Christmas I use a sprig of sweet basil, and a few pieces of red pepper (berries).
I would say see picture, but for some reason I am unable to download a single picture of my recipies.
